Poetics of Place

Campus contacts

Place can be a memory, a physical location, or an imaginary space. We consider what it means to interact with these sites and how they enter into and influence the poems we read and write in class. All levels welcome.

Each week we study and write poems based on four aspects of place: memory/nostalgia, history, imagination, and current surroundings. Our readings include poems by Joe Bolton, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, Jose Hernandez and others. This class is part workshop and students can have four new poem drafts by the last class meeting.
