Details about this class
Greetings, prospective student! Thank you for considering my course. Read on to learn a bit more about me and what to expect as a student in my class.
I am an enthusiastic, compassionate instructor who is dedicated to your success in my course. It’s my goal that every student passes my class, ideally with an A or B, and I will do my best to help you achieve this. I employ grading methods which recognize the effort you put into the coursework; this allows for more equitable grading and benefits a wider range of students with varying skill levels. I also allow you to revise graded work, I accept late work, and I offer extra credit, so you have numerous opportunities to succeed.
I strive to teach through an anti-racist lens and push back against discriminatory standards and practices in higher education. Every person is welcome in my classroom and will be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, ability, or any other distinguishing characteristic. I will do everything within my power to provide a safe, affirming space for students who are BIPOC, LGBTQ, English-language learners, immigrants, or other marginalized groups.
There will be no required textbooks or materials that you need to purchase for this course. All course materials will be provided to you online. In addition to the online materials that will be provided to you, students will have individual phone or Zoom conferences with me to receive individualized support and instruction. These real-time conversations are intended to support you individually as a student and help you improve your reading and writing skills.
This course will have required weekly in-person meetings via Zoom on Mondays from 6-7:50pm. While you may have a certain number of absences, attendance is required, so please plan to attend the majority of these classes.
Please contact me at hcullom@pcc.edu if you have further questions about this class. I look forward to working with you!
Technology
This class will use Google Docs and Google Drive. Since this course is a hybrid (partly on Zoom and partly online), there will be weekly assignments due on D2L, our online course management system. All of this software is free for student use.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
Online technical requirements
Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
