Details about this class
This is an asynchronous online class with no scheduled meetings. Central questions to be addressed in class include: What does it mean to lead a good life? How do duty and goodness relate to right and wrong? What is the best ethical framework for engaging in ethical decision-making? Is there an objective, universal moral code for all, or is moral relativism a better view of morality? Lastly, the course will explore contemporary moral problems such as euthanasia, genetic engineering aimed at human enhancement, and obligations to future generations. Students will complete various discussion assignments and quizzes throughout the term. During finals week, students will complete a final reflective essay on what they've learned in class.
Although there is a required textbook for this course, used hard copies are available on the internet. Also, Oxford University Press has an 180-day ebook version for only $41.99. Here is a link to The Ethical Life ebook version.
