Details about this class

Class Structure and Expectations:  This remote class will meet synchronously with the instructor in Zoom and will have the virtually proctored exams. You are expected to attend the classes live in Zoom. If you know you will miss several classes, I would suggest you take Online (no scheduled meetings) class instead.

Virtually Proctored Exams: Proctored exams are one of many assessment tools used in MTH to assess student learning. The exams in this class will be proctored virtually in Zoom with me, your instructor, during the class time. The dates and time will be announced by the beginning of the term.

Virtually proctored exams require: 1) a modern computer (desktop or laptop) with a supported operating system (Windows or Mac), 2) a broadband internet provider or mobile carrier with LTE or better service, 3) a microphone, 4) a detachable webcam or mobile device (such as a smartphone, tablet, etc.), and 5) a quiet, isolated, well-lit location.

Review the Student Guide to Virtually Proctored Exams in Zoom for important information and requirements. Please make every concerted effort to attend the scheduled virtually proctored exams. If you do not meet the requirements for virtually proctored exams, prefer to take your exams in-person, and/or have an unavoidable scheduling conflict, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss alternative arrangements. With adequate notice, alternative testing arrangements can be made for virtual or in-person proctoring at a testing center. Scheduling appointments with a testing center is the responsibility of the student, as well as paying any associated fees with using a non-PCC testing center.

If you have accommodations through Accessible Ed & Disability Resources at PCC, please contact me so we can discuss your specific accommodations and how I can best support you.

If you have any questions or concerns about virtually proctored exams, please feel free to contact me.

Prerequisites Review:

If it has been more than several terms since you last passed a math course, please strongly consider enrollment in ALC 65 to update your prerequisite skills (MTH 65: Introductory Algebra - 2nd Term) while taking MTH 65. More information about ALC  65 may be found at the math department's webpage about Alternative Learning Courses and Alternative Learning Math.

Technology

Online access to this course via Zoom and other online resources multiple times per week is required.

Weekly access to a printer to print weekly assignments is strongly recommended.

Scanning technology with the ability to scan written work to a single multi-paged PDF file is required. Alternatives to a dedicated physical scanner (available at all PCC libraries and computer centers) includes many optional third-party apps using your smart phone. One such commonly used free app is AdobeScan.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
