Details about this class

Hi and thanks for checking this page! This course is an accelerated 8-week summer class, so be mindful of your overall course load and look at all summer course dates very carefully.

This class is an online, asynchronous course with no regular class meetings. There are 2 virtually proctored exams required. All Math and Stat classes have proctored exam requirements.

Please look for the course notes packet at the bookstore. I will also send you the PDF if you prefer to print it yourself or through the Multnomah County Library for free.

There will be two proctored exams on Zoom with me. Please read the Student Guide to Virtually Proctored Exams. If you prefer to take your tests in person you may take them at a PCC testing center or a testing center at a college or university near you. There may be a fee to take it at a testing center outside of PCC.

  • Midterm Exam: Wednesday, July 16 at 6 pm OR Thursday, July 17 at 10 am (Zoom check-in 30 minutes before)
  • Final Exam: Wednesday, August 13 at 6 pm OR Thursday, August 14 at 10 am (Zoom check-in 30 minutes before)
  • In person options will be available through the testing center.

There are no weekly class meetings but I am here to help you during Zoom office hours, by phone, text, help forums and email. My goal is to make math fun, relevant and interesting with a social justice focus. There are lecture videos with fill-in notes, online and written homework, a project, a midterm and a final.

The book is free online and all the apps we use are free. We will look at aspects of social justice through the course. You can get a feel for my style of teaching through videos on YouTube, old syllabi and previous course materials at caraleemath.com. Feel free to email me with any questions at cara.lee@pcc.edu.

Technology

Access to a printer is helpful but not required. You can buy all the pages needed from the bookstore. There will be video lectures with fill-in notes. We will use some free online stats calculators that are required. I will show you how to use all of these in the class videos.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online technical requirements

Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
