Hello and welcome to our class!

This is the second part of the Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology course where we will talk about seven organ systems: endocrine, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive.

 

Textbooks

During the term, we will use two textbooks – one for the lecture and one for the lab.

Lecture

You have two options to choose from:

(1) you can use a free electronic OER OpenStax Anatomy & Physiology text found here:

            https://openstax.org/details/books/anatomy-and-physiology

(2) you can purchase or rent 3rd edition of “Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology” written by K. Saladin and R. Farland and published in 2022; it can be a new or used paper copy or electronic text. This textbook comes in two versions: with Connect online resources and without it. Connect is not required for our course, and you can get a textbook without it.

Lab

You have two choices here as well:

(1) you can purchase a custom “BI 122 Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology Lab Manual” by E. Marieb (2024)

            * It contains the lab work for BI 122 class only.

(2) you can purchase or continue using “Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual” by E. Marieb, 7th edition (2018)

            * It contains the lab work for both 121 and 122 classes.

There are copies of the lab manual available in our lab classroom. Although they have to stay in the classroom and cannot be taken home, you are welcome to use them during lab period.

 

Class overview and attendance

Our class is set up in an online (lecture) and an in-person (lecture, lab) modality.

For our lectures, recorded lecture videos and supplemental materials will be posted online early in the week. Then we will meet in person on Thursdays at 4:30-5:50pm (Rock Creek campus) to work with the lecture content for that week. It will include assignments, activities and assessments, and on campus lecture meetings will be required to attend.

Our labs will meet in person on Rock Creek campus on Thursdays at 6-8:50pm, will also be required to attend, and will contain the exercises related to the lecture topic.

Technology

There is no additional technology required for this class.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
