Welcome to BA 100: Business Career Planning

Hello.  My name is Connie Plowman.  I look forward to guiding you through this course.

INTRODUCTION:  This course introduces students to career planning and employment communication in business to maximize employment opportunities. It is designed to be taken early in the student’s business degree program.

CAREER PLANNING:  Career management and planning involves helping people choose or enter an occupation. It also includes self-assessment of interests, values, and skills, understanding the steps in career decision-making, and learning the necessary employability skills to obtain and keep a job once a choice has been made.

PURPOSE:  The mission of this course is to provide an opportunity for students to learn about and develop the necessary skills to assist in career planning. It is recommended that students take this course to help them secure beneficial internships and better prepare for work in their desired field once they graduate.

COMPLETION:  Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Apply tools to research, evaluate, and select employment opportunities in the business field to further career success.
  • 沙巴体育官网 employment documents and networking skills to present favorably to potential employers and improve career opportunities.

TEXTBOOK:  There is a required textbook for this class:  StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Gallup (Make sure it is a new book with a new access code in the back of the book for taking the online assessment.)

NOTE:  This course is Online with Scheduled Meetings on Tuesdays (12:00 to 1:50pm) via Zoom.  It requires you attend class, actively participate in discussions, dedicate time to study, read everything thoroughly, watch selected videos, and submit weekly assignments -- on time and with quality.
