Technology
Painting I will introduce and explore fundamental issues of painting. Focus will be placed on work in the classroom, investigating and developing methods and techniques of painting and working with issues of image making, including color, composition, and expression. Assignments will be given and discussed, exploring the use of these aspects of painting and creative approaches to problem-solving. Works will be critiqued in class. During class critiques, additional issues will be tackled, such as art historical context, cultural and societal relationships, and levels of meaning and expression found in the work.
There is no prerequisite for this class; basic drawing skills are strongly recommended. Painting I / ART 181 is generally recommended to be taken before Painting II / ART 281. Students who are enrolled in Painting II will have more advanced aspects added to their in-class work and homework.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
