Covers the practical application of the laws of thermodynamics and heat transfer to operating, maintaining, and repairing hot water, steam, chilled water, refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems found in todays industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, and processing plants. Includes the physical properties of water and refrigerants. Includes operation and servicing of controls and components of these systems. Includes chemical water treatment for boilers, chillers and cooling towers. Emphasizes achieving optimal energy use for thermal systems operation. Emphasizes safe work practices around thermal systems. Prerequisites: APR 272, and (WR 90 and RD 90) or IRW 90 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement or department permission.
