Details about this class
At PCC, introductory fiction and advanced fiction are taught as one multilevel course, WR 241/244: Creative Writing (Fiction). This means the WR 241 course and WR 244 course I teach each term are cross-listed, and they share the enrollment capacity (20 students maximum) and waitlist (5 students maximum). This also means there are only a few differences between taking my WR 241 course or WR 244 course. For example, my introductory and advanced students complete the same assignments in my WR 241/244 class; the advanced students just have a slightly higher word count requirement for their written assignments.
If you enroll in my WR 241/244 course, please plan to attend our weekly Zoom classes. We will use this time largely for social/collaborative learning and to discuss our fiction writing in large group conversations and small group breakout rooms. In addition to attending our weekly Zoom class sessions, students will have weekly coursework due on Mondays and Wednesdays. These activities will include readings (short stories, novel excerpts, craft essays, peer writing, etc.), short film selections, open-ended online discussions about fiction writing, and generative writing exercises.
Technology
No special technology is required; I will share our course materials (our syllabus, assignments, readings, videos, artwork, etc.) on D2L at online.pcc.edu. Students should have regular access to the internet, to access D2L at least three times per week and attend our weekly Zoom classes. If you haven't used D2L before, not to worry; I will share a remote learning survey during the first week of the term, which will introduce everyone to our course materials and our online learning processes.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
