Details about this class
Hi, I'm Sarah Coffer and I'm looking forward to being your Intermediate Reading and Writing instructor Fall term. :)
This class meets in person on Cascade campus. I will provide the materials that we will use for learning and practice both in person and on D2L. Most of the learning will be planned for in-class, but will be available on D2L, also. Required homework will be minimal unless you miss class. Then you will need to access the class materials on D2L and catch up. Additional practice outside of class is available upon request if you are highly motivated or want extra credit.
This class integrates reading and writing skills to build your critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis of information for deep understanding and effective communication. When you improve these skills, you will be ready to move up to the next level! The next level might be a higher level reading/writing class. It might be a better job. It might be getting ready for college or taking the GED®.
I will work with each of you to make sure you learn how to use the technology required for this class. My job will be to support your academic growth as you work toward your goals. I'm really looking forward to working and learning with you this term. If you have any questions about the class, please email me at sarah.coffer@pcc.edu.
Technology
You will need to be able to access your PCC email, Google Drive, and D2L to participate in this class. If you need help accessing a computer or laptop and/or a stable internet connection, please let Sarah know and she can help you by connecting you with the library at PCC and other community resources. We will also learn and practice using our PCC emails, Google Drive (Docs, mostly), and D2L (our online learning management system) in this class; so if you are new to it, that's okay.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
