Details about this class

Hey there and welcome to Introduction to Psychology- Part 1! I am excited to get to know you all, please don't hesitate to reach out with questions: sarah.wheat@pcc.edu

-Sarah Wheat (she/her)

Our Course

In our course we are going to dive into psychology, the study of the human brain and behavior. We'll be learning about how we conduct psychological research, biopsychology, learning, memory, cognition, human development, and more! In particular, we will be diving into psychological research and applying it to our everyday lives and current events!

Attendance:

Since this is a fully online class, and we do not have regular class meetings, there is no 'attendance' being recorded! However, most students will login to the course 2-4 times per week to submit assignments, check up on the course, and interact with me (your instructor) and/or other students. Be sure to login on the first day so you are aware of the first week's assignments so you can stay registered in the course :)

Assignments:

Throughout the term, there will be required Assignments. You will be graded on FOUR TYPES OF ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Weekly Discussions
  • Critical Thinking Journals
  • Reading Quizzes
  • Midterm and Final Papers

Everything will be submitted online through D2L!

Materials:

*There is no required textbook to purchase, we will be using the following open access textbook. All other readings and videos will be provided on D2L.

Psychology 2e - OpenStax

All other materials will be free and available through D2L!

Last But Not Least!

While learning about our course will help you decide if this class is for you (which I hope it is), I wanted to share a bit about myself! My name is Sarah Wheat, and I've lived in 8 states including Oregon, New Mexico, Florida, and West Virginia! My master's degree is in Social Psychology (Ball State University) and my bachelor's degree is in Psychology with a Theatre minor (Briar Cliff University). I have a rabbit and love to travel, read and hike! I am always available to chat about those things as well as everything to do with psychology.

Technology

Our class is fully online! This means that we will never meet in person or as a class for regular sessions. This asynchronous format will provide you with an opportunity to work at your own pace, as long as you are meeting our course due dates :). Our class will be 100% fully available from the first day of the term!

Due to this, you will need consistent access to our course in D2L! If you ever have issues with D2L or technology, please don't hesitate to reach out to let me know! If you wish to meet with me through zoom or another form of online communication, we will find a method of connecting.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
