Details about this class

Hi and thanks for checking this page! This is a hybrid class that is a combination of a web/online class and an in-person class. We will meet on campus once a week at the SE campus and the rest of the work will be done outside of class. Keep in mind this class is the same amount of content and work as a 2-day/week class. A hybrid class allows for more flexibility and also requires more responsibility to watch the lecture videos and do work outside of class. Please make sure this is a good fit for your learning style.

Note: All math and statistics classes have returned to proctored testing. This class will have a midterm and a final during our scheduled class time on campus.

The lectures will be mostly on video, to be watched before class. The notes pages to fill in along with the videos can be purchased from the bookstore. I will also send you the pdf in case you prefer to print yourself or at the Multnomah County Library for free.

We will finish the notes together in class, then use the rest of the class time for practice with simulations and activities with data. The class will be held in a computer lab so we can help everyone with the free online stats calculators.

My goal is to make statistics fun, relevant and interesting with a social justice focus. There are written and online assignments every week, a midterm and a final.

The book is free online and all the apps we use are free. We will look at aspects of social justice through the data sets in the course. You can get a feel for my style of teaching through videos on YouTube, old syllabi and previous course materials at caraleemath.com. Feel free to email me with any questions at cara.lee@pcc.edu[opens in new window].

Technology

Access to a printer is helpful but not required. You can buy all the pages needed from the bookstore. There will be video lectures with fill-in notes. I will show you how to use free online stats calculators.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
