Details about this class
Hello. Thanks for considering this math 251 class. In the upcoming quarter we will investigate the concepts for differential calculus.
You may see MTH 251 referred to as MTH 251Z. MTH 251 and MTH 251Z are the same course. Important: This math 251 class is In-person with all class meetings occurring at the Sylvania campus. Your physical attendance is required for both class meetings and all exams.
The 251 class structure uses the laboratory model. The first half of the class meeting is used to cover the mathematical topics, and the second half of the class meeting is working in groups on the lab book material.
It is highly recommended that you purchase a physical hardcopy of the calculus lab manual. This aids in communication and group work.
Check out an old syllabus (link) to get a feel for the course (please note some things may change from this syllabus).
Technology
- Calculator: on test days, calculators are freely loaned out or you may use your own (TI/Casio). Outside of test times access to graphing and computing technology is expected for doing lab manual work.
- It is recommended for students to have a dedicated class notebook/journal for taking notes and doing lab work.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
