Details about this class
Hi students!
This is a fully ONLINE (no scheduled meetings) course with no required meeting times. However, students should be able to engage with the content and fellow students an average of 2-3 times each week. The content in this course is so relevant and important to our daily lives and I really believe in your successful engagement with the information.
This course operates in a weekly module format with structured content. Assessments in the course include a weekly discussion (where we get to learn more about the content and from each other while practicing items that will appear in the culminating assignment), a weekly quiz (open resource and no time limits) and 2 assignments (one requires watching a film and the other is a culminating lengthy assignment). Student assignments will ask you to engage with the content, apply concepts from the course, and reflect on the experience.
I will have office hours available to meet with students as desired (online or in-person at Sylvania on Mondays) and am typically available via email M-F. Should you register for this section of HE 264, you can expect to receive an email and a syllabus from me in the couple of days before the term will begin.
The textbook for this course is Food & Society, 3rd edition and is available in digital (ISBN: 9781509542253) and print copies (ISBN: 9781509542246). Find more information on the textbook from the PCC bookstore.
Technology
Basic web applications/viewing technology needed. Most assignments are formatted in Word documents. Students should be able to engage with outside services like youtube or podcasts.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
