Details about this class

This section of CH151 is hybrid and flipped. Hybrid means that the course is part online and part on-campus. Flipped means you will view and study the online lectures before we meet each week, then we’ll spend our on-campus time working on activities and experiments that will solidify your learning.

Here’s how it will go: you will watch interactive lecture videos independently at home before our Wednesday class.  Then you will come to campus on Wednesdays for one 2-hr lecture and one 3-hr lab session. In lecture you will have a chance to ask questions on the material and practice what you have learned in small groups. You will also take your exams during this period.

In-person lectures at the Rock Creek Campus

Two hours per week are scheduled on campus for practicing course material and working in small groups. (Wednesdays 9:00 to 10:50 am)

In-person labs at the Rock Creek Campus

Students will need to attend the lab sections in person (Wednesdays 12:00 am – 2:50pm).There are no remote labs for this course.  You must be able to attend both lecture and laboratory in-person components in order to register for the course

Two exams (1 mid-term exam and a final exam) will be given in person on campus during our regularly scheduled class sessions.

Homework will be completed using the Modified Mastering Chemistry (MMC) platform. Temporary access to the MMC platform, which includes an electronic copy of the text, will be provided for the first two weeks while you determine the best purchase option for you. Please wait until after the first day of class to purchase anything. The access code for MMC that includes an electronic copy of the textbook can be purchased directly from the publisher at a lower price than from the bookstore. I will provide additional information on the first day of class.

Please do not purchase any Modified Mastering Chemistry access codes online (from Amazon or other online sources). These codes will not allow you to register for this PCC CH 151 course.

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
