Details about this class
NOTE: This is a fully asynchronous online course with lectures, quizzes, homework, and the final exam all online. Asynchronous means that there are no set class times; instead, there are time windows in which you will need to complete your work.
The lectures are videos of narrated PowerPoint presentations that you can access on your own schedule. The labs will be done at home with a purchased lab kit, and you will be expected to post 2 photos of yourself (2 selfies) with each lab completed. You cannot purchase the lab kit at the PCC bookstore, and all ordering information will be sent to registered students in the course. This course is quite expensive, mostly due to the lab kit, and it requires about 15 hours of your time each week to do well.
We also strongly suggest that CH 104 Online is not your first online course.
Technology
You will need to be able to use a word processing program such as Google Docs, which is free, or Microsoft Word, which you would have purchase to have full functionality.
You will need to be able to upload photos of each week's lab setup and of yourself working on the lab (2 selfies) for each lab. You can use your phone to do this.
We offer online live office hours through Zoom, accessed through D2L. It is highly recommended that if your computer does not have a microphone to use a headset with a microphone (<$10 at the PCC bookstores or any standard headset with a microphone works). We ask that you do not use a webcam unless there is something specific that you need to show us.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
