CLASS DAYS AND HOURS
- Mon-Wed In-person class meetings are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 11:50am.
- This time is reserved for in-class instruction, lectures, demonstrations, discussions, work time and critiques.
PCC CCOG ART 275 PRINTMAKING.
OBJECTIVES FOR ART 275
- Intermediate printmaking focusing on using specified techniques, processes and methods.
- Continue to develop creative ways to solve problems focusing on specified techniques, processes and methods.
- Continue to create original hand-printed artwork using knowledge on specified techniques, processes and methods.
- Demonstrate an understanding of processes, materials, and techniques associated with Printmaking II.
- Continue self-critiquing skills to develop expression through printmaking.
- Continue safe practices in regards to the handling of printmaking equipment, tools and cleaning supplies.
- Exposure to the history of printmaking and the connection to contemporary printmaking practices.
- Exposure to alternative processes and multi-media work.
- Integrate learned skills and experiences to other facets of life and education.
GOALS BY THE END OF THE TERM
- Solve problems using a variety of strategies for making prints.
- Demonstrate command of intermediate level processes, techniques and materials.
- Participate in a critical dialogue about ideas and issues in printmaking applying self-critiquing skills.
- Interpret and evaluate prints from different cultures to study the diverse perspectives of the human experience.
- Learn new methodologies for designing and completing prints using specified techniques, processes and methods.
- Expanded strategies for generating ideas.
- Create prints with greater focus on developing personal concepts and ideas with awareness of the standards and practices established by both contemporary and historical artists.
MY EXPECTATIONS / STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In-person class attendance.
- Access to internet, PCC websites, PCC emails, D2L.
- Turn assignments in by due dates for critiques and discussions.
- Participate in class meetings, discussions, demonstrations and critiques.
- Upload completed assignment to D2L.
- Have materials to work on assignments.
- Create original artwork using the techniques covered over the term.
- Learn from mistakes.
- Find solutions to critical issues and visual problems.
- Be open to the critique of artwork from teacher and peers.
- Be open to suggestions and constructive criticism from teacher and peers.
- Learn to work outside your comfort zone. Embrace learning something new.
- Positive work ethic and attitude. Be adaptable and flexible.
- Help foster a safe, inclusive and collaborative community within the classroom.
- Work independently on assigned projects outside of class at home or during open studio times.
- Have work ready by the critique deadlines.
- Part of each assignment grade is participation in our project critiques.
- No plagiarizing – do not turn in plagiarized work.

CLASSROOM POLICIES:
- Only students registered for this course are allowed in our classroom during class time. No exceptions.
- Only students registered for classes taught in Room 103 are allowed in the classroom during open studio. No exceptions.
- PCC Campuses are alcohol and drug free campuses.
- You cannot come into my classroom if you are under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. This is school policy.
- This is for studio safety reasons when handling tools, equipment and chemicals.
- It is my job to make sure everyone feels safe and accepted in this class.
- It is my wish for all of my students to succeed in my courses.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
- Attendance is required for this in-person studio course.
- Missing class can have negative effects on your projects, participation and completion of course requirements.
- Students may miss 2 classes without any consequences to overall grade.
- Missing 3 classes can drop your overall grade by 5 points. (missing 1.5 weeks of the term)
- Missing 4 classes can drop your overall grade by 10 points. (missing 2 weeks of the term)
- Missing 5 classes can drop your overall grade by 20 points. (missing 2.5 weeks of the term)
- Missing more than 6 classes can result in a non-passing grade for the term.
GRADING POLICIES FOR ART 275 COURSE:
- Each project is worth up to 100 points.
- Projects will be added up together and averaged out at the end of the term for the overall grade average for the term.
- 90-100 means strong in all areas = A.
- 80-89 means good in most areas = B.
- 70-79 means average in all areas = C.
- 60-69 means lacking in most areas = D.
- Anything lower than a 60 means lacking in all areas = non-passing grade.
- If taking the class for a Pass/No Pass, students must get a “C” (70%) or higher in order to pass.
SIGNATURE ASSIGNMENT:
- All GenEd courses require a Signature Assignment as way to assess student’s learning outcomes related to their courses.
- Students completing an associate degree at PCC will be able to reflect on one’s work or competencies to make connections between course content and lived experience.
- The study of visual arts is essential to the development of the individual’s meaningful participation in society. At the heart of artistic practice is to organize one’s experiences and recognize their meanings. Participation in the visual arts is an opportunity for individuals to connect to the past and present with an engagement to both culture and society.
