Details about this class

Greetings!

In ART204: Global Art History I, we look at art made globally from about 65,000 BCE through the 5th century CE. We will learn about art objects and architecture from different cultures and time periods, recognizing the impacts of religion, politics, and economics. This class mostly involves looking at art, reading, written art analysis, discussion, and quizzes. We will critique biases in traditional art history as we look at art made in prehistoric and early historic times.

There is no required textbook, and you can complete the course with the links and resources provided in our D2L course site. If you are interested in book resources to support your learning, let me know and I can make suggestions.

This class will be In-Person (!!!) at Cascade Campus. We will take field trips to look at art, and you may need to pay Trimet transportation fees and as little as $5 for a group tour at the Portland Art Museum.

Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores.

Email me if you have questions: ebilyeu@pcc.edu

I look forward to working with you,
Elizabeth Bilyeu
ART210 instructor
