Course Description

Introduces various public sector criminal justice agencies to learn about their structure and function.

Addendum to Course Description

Provides students with an opportunity to practice their skills at a criminal justice related work site. Experience may be paid or non-paid which will include training, supervision and evaluation. Provides students the opportunity to apply classroom coursework to a given Criminal Justice field and may be added to a resume as an indication of having had experience in the field.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessment of the student's cooperative work experience will be provided by the employer on the Employer Evaluation form.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate their strengths as compared to the employer's needs.
  2. Apply job acquisition techniques and negotiate a training package.
  3. Meet learning outcomes as mutually agreed upon by the student, supervisor, and instructor in advance through a written learning contract for the independent project.
  4. Perform duties outlined in the written contract, adhere to agreed-upon time commitments, and maintain a good working relationship by keeping the employer informed of progress on assigned projects.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Each cooperative ed experiences will be evaluated by the supervising workplace manger in conjunction with the PCC Criminal Justice Dept contact instructor for CJA 280.
