Course Description

Participants will review and practice basic pruning techniques for coniferous trees and shrubs common to Oregon landscapes. We'll cover what to do, and what not to do, especially for pruning techniques common for broadleaf species that should be avoided for conifers.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

Identify conifers as species with cones, and with needle-, scale-, or awl-like foliage

Recognize the physiological differences between angiosperms and gymnosperms, especially as they pertain to pruning 

Differentiate between reduction, removal, heading, and tipping cuts
